What should I enter for the cost of an ordered check?
Take the price of a box of checks, add shipping, and divide by the number of checks in the box. If you throw away leftover checks when your bank or address changes, include that waste too.
What costs are in the print-your-own side?
Software, blank check stock (usually three checks per page), and ink or toner. A printer is not included, because most people already own one.
