Check printing software for Quicken users

If you keep your money in Quicken, you can still print checks on blank check stock. Check Writer 123 prints the check and keeps a register, and you record the same check in Quicken with the same number. It runs in your browser, so there is nothing to install.

14-day free trial. No card needed. Works alongside Quicken.

Why Quicken users print their own checks

Quicken is a good place to track money, but ordering pre-printed checks for it means minimum quantities, waiting for delivery, and boxes that go to waste when your bank, address or business name changes. Printing on blank check stock lets you use only what you need and keep your details current.

The trade-off is one extra step. Check Writer 123 does not connect to Quicken, so you record each check in Quicken yourself. For many people who write a modest number of checks, that is a small price for a simple setup.

A simple workflow

  1. 1

Write the check in Check Writer 123

Choose the bank account, payee, amount, date and memo. The amount in words, the check number and the bank number line are filled in for you. Check the live preview, run a free Test Print on plain paper, then print on blank check stock.

  2. 2

Enter the same check in Quicken

Record the payment in your Quicken register with the same check number, date and amount, and mark it as a check you have already printed yourself.

  3. 3

    Compare the registers

Download the Check Writer 123 register as a CSV for any month or account, and compare it with your Quicken register when you reconcile. It opens in Excel or Google Sheets.

  4. 4

Tick checks off as they clear

When a check shows on your bank statement, mark it cleared in the Check Clearing page. Charts show what has cleared and what is still outstanding.

What you get

No more pre-printed boxes

Print on blank check stock and use only what you need, instead of reordering boxes with your details already on them.

No waste when something changes

Move, rename a business or switch banks, and you update your details once. You are not left with a drawer of unusable checks.

Several accounts on the same stock

Keep more than one bank account in the app and print each on the same blank paper.

Your logo and signature

Add a logo and a saved signature so every check looks consistent.

Nothing to install

It runs in your web browser on Windows, Mac and Chromebook, so it does not depend on a Quicken version or a Windows release.

Plans start at $9.99 a month with no per-check fee. See what it costs to print your own checks, the QuickBooks version of this guide, and online vs desktop check printing software. New here? Follow how to set up your first check, or read the complete guide to check printing software.

Frequently asked questions

Does Check Writer 123 connect to Quicken?

No. There is no direct connection to Quicken. You keep your finances in Quicken, print the check in Check Writer 123, and record the same check in Quicken with the same check number. The register's CSV download makes it easy to compare the two.

Can I use it if I also use QuickBooks?

Yes. Because nothing connects, it works alongside Quicken, QuickBooks or any other accounting software, or with no accounting software at all. See the QuickBooks guide for that workflow.

Is it a one-time purchase?

No. Check Writer 123 is a monthly subscription, starting at $9.99, with no per-check fee. If you prefer a one-time purchase on a single Windows computer, a desktop program may suit you better. Compare the options in our online vs desktop guide.

What do I need to print?

A computer with a web browser, a printer that takes letter-size paper, your bank's routing and account numbers, and check paper: blank check stock, pre-printed check stock or plain paper.

Will it print payroll checks?

Check Writer 123 prints and records checks. It does not run payroll or calculate wages and taxes, so use your payroll provider or accountant for that. The stub can show details such as the pay period.

Can I try it first?

Yes. Every account starts with a 14-day free trial and no card is needed. A free Test Print on plain paper never counts toward your plan.
