Print checks online
Enter the check in your browser, see a live preview, and print it on any printer. Nothing to install, no waiting on a reorder.
Prints on blank check stock, pre-printed stock or plain paper. Works on Windows, Mac and Chromebook.
You can print checks online. You type the payee, amount and date on a website, it lays out a complete check with the amount written in words and the bank numbers along the bottom, and you print it on your own printer. You supply the bank account and the paper. This page explains how it works, what you need, what it costs and where the limits are, so you can decide if it fits.
How printing checks online works
- 1
Create your account
Sign up with your email or Google. The 14-day free trial needs no card, and you can print real checks from day one.
- 2
Add your bank account
Enter the name on the account, your bank's routing number, and your account number. Type the routing number and the site checks that it is valid and suggests the bank name. Add a logo and your signature if you want them on every check.
- 3
Choose what you print on
Blank check stock (recommended), pre-printed check stock, or plain letter paper. Your choice is remembered for that bank account.
- 4
Write the check
Enter the payee, amount, date and memo. The amount in words is written for you, the check number is assigned automatically, and a live preview shows exactly what will print.
- 5
Test it, then print
Run a free Test Print on plain paper, hold it against a real check in front of a light, and nudge the alignment if needed. Then press Print. Every printed check is saved to your register.
What you need to print checks online
- A computer with a web browser. There is nothing to download, and it works the same on Windows, Mac and Chromebook.
- A printer. Any laser or inkjet printer that takes letter-size paper will do.
- Check paper. The most reliable choice is 3-to-a-page blank check stock (see what blank check stock is). Plain paper also works in some cases (see printing checks on plain paper).
- Your bank account details: the name on the account, the routing number and the account number.
Three ways to print: pick your paper
Blank check stock
Recommended. Prints the whole check, including the MICR number line, on 3-to-a-page stock. Choose whether the check sits at the top, middle or bottom of the sheet.
Pre-printed stock
Prints only the changing parts: date, payee, amount, amount in words, memo and signature. The name, bank and number line are already on the paper.
Plain letter paper
Prints one complete, decorated check at the top of the page with a dashed cut guide, plus an optional back page for the endorsement. Best for mobile or ATM deposits.
Whether a bank accepts a plain-paper check is up to the bank. Plain paper is a good fit when you are depositing the check yourself and a poor fit when you are handing or mailing it to someone else. Not sure which fits? Read how to choose the right check paper.

You can cancel any time in Settings, and there is a 30-day money-back guarantee on your first payment (see the refund policy). For ways to compare costs fairly, read affordable check printing software.
Is it safe to print checks online?
Your account and routing numbers are sensitive, so choose a service you trust and protect your paper. Check Writer 123 serves every page over HTTPS, stores passwords as salted hashes, does not sell your data, and sends card payments directly to Square so card numbers never reach its own servers. See the security page. On your side, keep blank check stock locked up, shred spoiled checks, and print only on a computer you control.
What you can do besides printing a single check
- Keep several bank accounts, each with its own logo, signature and alignment settings.
- Save vendors and employees so you only type a name once.
- Enter up to 25 checks at a time and print up to 50 together (see printing multiple checks at once).
- Put invoice lines on the stub and attach a supporting document that prints after the check.
- Search your check register, download it as a CSV file, and see what happened to each check (see keeping a digital record of printed checks).
- Print a voided check for direct-deposit setup, and reprint any saved check for free if a printer jams.
What it does not do
So there are no surprises: Check Writer 123 does not mail checks, move money, connect to your bank, calculate payroll taxes, or sync with accounting software, and there is no phone app. It prints your checks, and you handle the rest. If you need those things, a different tool may suit you better, and the small business check printing guide can help you decide.
Questions about printing checks online
Can I really print checks online?
Yes. You enter the check details on a website, the site lays out a complete check with the amount in words, and you print it on your own printer. You still need your own bank account and check paper (or plain paper). Whether a bank accepts a check printed this way is up to that bank, and printing on proper blank check stock gives you the best chance.
What do I need to print checks online?
A computer with a web browser, a printer, check paper, and your bank's routing and account numbers. The most reliable paper is 3-to-a-page blank check stock. If you only need a check for a mobile deposit or a one-off, plain letter paper works in the right situation.
Is it legal to print my own checks?
In general, yes, for your own account, as long as the check contains the information a bank needs (payee, amount, date, signature, and your bank's routing and account numbers). Banks decide what they will accept, so check with yours if you are unsure. This is general information, not legal advice.
Will the bank accept a check I printed online?
That depends on the bank, and no website can promise it. Blank check stock with a clean, correctly placed MICR line is the standard way to do it. If your bank is strict about magnetic ink, ask what it accepts, and try a small, low-risk check first.
How much does it cost to print checks online?
Check Writer 123 has three plans: Occasional Pack at $9.99 a month (20 checks, 2 bank accounts), Mid Tier at $13.99 a month (60 checks, 4 bank accounts), Unlimited at $29.99 a month (unlimited checks, unlimited bank accounts). Every plan has every feature. You also pay for your own paper and ink. The first 14 days are free with no card, and there is a 30-day money-back guarantee on your first payment.
Is it safe to put my bank details on a website?
You are trusting a service with your account and routing numbers, so ask the right questions. Check Writer 123 serves everything over HTTPS, stores passwords as salted hashes, does not sell your data, and sends card payments straight to Square so card numbers never touch its servers. Read the security page for details, and print only on paper you keep locked up.
Does it work with QuickBooks or other accounting software?
No. Check Writer 123 does not sync with or import from accounting software. Many people keep their books in QuickBooks, a spreadsheet or on paper and print the checks here, then record the payment in their books. It also does not calculate payroll tax, mail checks or move money.
Do I need a special printer?
No. Any ordinary laser or inkjet printer that takes letter-size paper will do. Laser printers dry instantly and suit high volume. Inkjet ink takes longer to dry and is not magnetic, so ask your bank about non-magnetic MICR before relying on it.
