Check Prints Blank: Troubleshooting Guide

A completely blank check usually isn't an alignment problem — it points to something earlier in the process not actually sending content to the printer, or printing it off the visible page entirely.

Work through these in order

  1. Print a plain text document to the same printer to confirm it's working and has ink or toner — if that's also blank, the issue is the printer itself, not your check software.
  2. Check that you're printing the correct check — some software shows a preview that isn't the same as what gets sent to the printer; confirm the check has actual data (payee, amount) filled in before printing.
  3. Check for an extreme margin or scaling error — if your software's layout places content far outside the printable page area, it can print "off the page" and appear blank even though content technically exists.
  4. Try printing to PDF or "print to file" instead of the physical printer, then open that file — if the PDF is also blank, the problem is in the software generating the check, not the printer.
  5. If the PDF has content but the printed page doesn't, update your printer driver — this is a common cause of content silently failing to print while print jobs appear to complete normally.

If checks print fine on plain paper but blank specifically on check stock, double check you haven't selected a "preview" or "draft" mode meant only for alignment testing — some check software has a deliberately blank test-print option for exactly that purpose.
